My company is reaching the point where our hodgepodge mix of qualifiers, verifiers, Chinese fiber OTDRs, and coax meters are becoming a liability, and some of our new contracts are requiring certification. In addition to being able to certify these tools would be helpful for troubleshooting, so I called up our local fluke distributor and explained what we needed. It's not a ton of stuff, but the quote had me in shock. Nearly $85k, and again we didn't order nearly every component we could have. I really can't justify this. My questions are as follows: is there a viable alternative, or would you recommend picked up some legacy equipment on ebay? Am I being unreasonable? Honestly I expected $20-$30k, but this is way beyond that. One of the things I noted immediately was the OTDR launch cables, which they're charging $325 for launch cables, I can get off brands on amazon for $80. Again, I expect to pay more for Fluke, but 3xs seems a bit of a reach. Thanks for your help!
