why does the B/W mode absorbs more light than colour mode ? Is there any advantage if it absorbs more infra red light ?

Black And White Mode

Feb 01, 2017B/W mode is usually tied to the removal of a mechanical filter placed before the sensor. This allows the IR light thru to the sensor.
Seperately, b/w mode also renders the image in a grayscale (b/w) representation.
The advantage is that the image is brighter because of the added IR (much brighter if using a camera with IR leds).
The disadvantage is that because the IR wavelengths are longer than visible light, the effective resolution is reduced.
