BIG Problem = BIG Opportunity

BIG PROBLEM:

Historically in the US, millions of customers of remote-monitored private property alarm systems, both commercial and residential, expected and received on-site emergency police response when their monitoring provider, like ADT or Monitonics, called for help. Not true today--- millions still expect emergency response, but DO NOT receive it.   Property protection has a much lower priority than people protection.   Monitoring firms have lost credibility with law enforcement due to decades of near total error, false alarms. Today, if a 911 type event is not witnessed, the call for help is generally considered a nuisance call, with low or no priority. Expensive remote monitored property alarm security is reduced to deterrence via signs and decals.

BIG OPPORTUNITY:

The need for protection of people and property is global in size and as old as civilization itself.  The evolution of time, technology, legislation and politics is constantly changing the norms. It can be dissected into thousands of inter-related small and large business opportunities, such as ADT, thousands of local dealers, AI-Artificial Intelligence, Allied Universal, EM24, Amazon and all franchising, technology and operational newcomers.

However this IPVM post is focused on private response to remote monitored private property deterrent alarm systems…. a substitute for rapidly diminishing police response. Millions of existing and future customers will pay for “reaction-to-the-action”. Plus lots of new services can be added for fee. Without on-site response the traditional market value of RMR can plummet. Uber type drive-by, or drone observation, or armed retired cop, or ???   Or maybe just better onsite technology and monitoring center interaction that eliminates the element of doubt, thus no need for alternate site response?? Or maybe all of the above??

What do you think….

i know of one company in the netherlands called alarmsecur, they record via video the cause of the alarm and send a clip to the monitoring station (they record continuously, once the alarm is triggered they send the video clip including the 2 seconds prior to the alarm to the monitoring center.

this way there is video evidence that can verify the need for the police.

Interesting post. I assume Uber for security will still need RMR to pay for the drive bys and retired cops.

The drone aspect is cool but not sure what it can do that a security camera cant do. Unless the drones have laser beams attached to them of course.

Private security patrols and alarm response has been offered as a service worldwide for as long as I can remember.  Remote video monitoring and verification has also been blowing up, especially in the last five years with the adoption of video analytics as a way to reduce false alarms.

Are you suggesting a new way to market these services?  Adding drones to the response mechanism could be interesting I suppose but there's a lot of legal, performance and logistical issues that would have to be overcome to make this viable much beyond a neighborhood.

IPVM seems to be the international discussion group, reviewing local and global issues, for small and large entrepreneurs.   This discussion of “private security” is truly international. More examples of alarm response…. drones have been used by SECOM in Japan for several years. Armored vehicles have been used by TYCO in Africa. Two retired cops providing 24 hour armed response within large US community association. And as noted by Chalon Dilber private patrols can be found in just about every country. We also know what happens in South Africa may not fit in Phoenix AZ. I am highlighting lots of new opportunities in the US due to millions of existing and new customers that need/want on-site alarm response, formerly provided by local police. Note that local emergency police response is always available, on-demand, to any site, when a 911 type event is witnessed, like Alarmsecur in the Netherlands, or the many US providers of “verification” technologies.  The many sources of remote monitoring are handicapped when they do not have a reliable source for response, other than customer notification, aka false security. We now know, “customer notification” is much lower RMR value, than reliable “police notification”. Investors are also adding it to their lists.
