Probably more of a comment and discussion than a poll.  Who are the best security industry companies to work for? Who has the best reputation for employee satisfaction?  A few I've heard thrown around....

  • Graybar - No one leaves Graybar because the retirement is awsome.
  • Convergint - Great culture.
  • Axis - Pay is meh, but the benefits and culture is great.

Mine of course! :)

I heard an Axis exec speaking at ISC a couple of years ago about employee retention. They have a solid plan in place to attract and keep the best. Alot of it is not your traditional massive company mumbo jumbo and more of the stuff you might find in a Dave Ramsey approach. Take your time hiring, be exclusive, be picky, then use your resources to keep them there and happy. I was impressed.

Say what you will about Dedicated Micros, but even in the worst of times they still had a very generous vehicle allocation program. Extremely competitive.

Go with an integrator who have an open mind to solving issues in which you have to go outside the integrators sourcing sources to solve the problem. If you truly have the mind of an integrators you will always be looking for than better solutions. But if your employer has locked you in to a buying box - pack your thing and get out your never be happy.

Sadly the majority of larger nationally know integrators do just that - one solution fits all! But over time the error surfaces and once again a solution must be founded.

Axis has changed and not the company it once was...pay is worse and culture is no longer fun...many good people have left in the last 2 years!

We're hired multiple people from Convergint in the last two weeks. I wouldn't qualify the things I have heard as great company culture. It's probably fine in Schaumburg but anything out of corporate is run worse than local offices of the big national players like Simplex, Stanley, Diebold, etc.

Personally I think the best company(s) are going to be your smaller manufacturer of integrators before they get bought out. If you are in the industry long enough you realize it is a revolving door and a lot of the same people will move companies after acquisition and the best company today won't be the best in 5 years, just as the worst won't still be the worst.
