"Being Unethical Is One Of The Greatest Sources Of Competitive Advantage.”

That's a quote from me in the Atlantic profile on IPVM:

he had been taken aback by the number of “deceptions and lies that were so commonplace,” which involved a lot of “fake-it-’til-you-make-it–type stuff.” These experiences made him realize that “being unethical is one of the greatest sources of competitive advantage.”

I do very much believe that and I regularly talk to IPVM employees about that and the corresponding importance of our work. Whether it's fever cameras or fake marketing or pretend manufacturers or bombarding end users with emails and phone calls, the types of actions that are unlikely to result in government or criminal action but are largely unethical, fuel the growth and success of many companies in technology. Worse, this undercuts the good companies in the industry who are either forced to lose at the expense of these bad actors or match their unethical actions.

Our investigative reporting helps expose these problems, warn the public and reduce the value of those unethical tactics.
