Axis PTZ Patterns

I'm messing with an Axis P5522-E PTZ camera. It's the first IP PTZ camera we've had and I'm confused about how to program a pattern into it.

With our old analog PTZ's I'm used to simply clicking Pattern, moving the camera around to where I want it to cover, eventually ending about the same area I started and then clicking End Pattern. Low and behold when I click Start Pattern the PTZ camera moves in the exact same pattern I programmed into it.

Does Axis PTZ cameras not have this ability? Please don't tell me I have to program X number of preset positions and then run them in some kind of sequence.

Since firmware 5.50, some Axis PTZ's have had the capability to record guard tours "WYSIWYG" style. This is from the Q6035 manual.

Does yours have this option?

Some do.

The P5522 has limited PTZ capability according to the manual. This feature is not listed, like it is for the 6035, for instance, so it would appear presets are the only way.

It's called Guard Tour and the 5522 manual lists it here.

That being said, I feel like most users use preset tours now, instead of patterns. The less the camera moves, the easier it is to spot motion in the scene, so stopping, quickly moving, stopping, moving, etc., makes it easier for an operator to actually see what's going on.

Are you seeing some way to do a Guard Tour on the 5522 without using a sequence of presets?

IMHO, I think what Tony is asking is to just record a tour without having to sequence presets, which some Axis PTZ can do, but not this model.

I am fairly certain that the P series PTZ's do not have the "Pattern" option that the Q series do. Your only option is to use the sequence of presets.
