Avigilon 455 Error From 8MP RTSP Stream; Will Multicast Solve The Problem?

Has anyone used multicasting successfully with Avigilon 8MP cameras?

We're looking for validation prior to asking that the customer change settings of the cameras and NVR to use multicast streams.

We see this error from Avigilon 8MP cameras firmware 3.28.0.76(27634) when attempting to open the RTSP stream while it is also being recorded by an Avigilon NVR:

RTSP/1.0 455 Method Not Valid In This State Server: AvigilonOnvifNvt/3.28.0.76Authentication-Info: qop=auth, ...

We think multicast is the solution per:Configuring RTSP Stream URI

  • Unicast — select this option if you only plan to view the video stream from one video player at a time.
  • Multicast — select this option if you plan to view the video from more than one video player simultaneously.

This old thread didn't leave me with confidence, so hoping someone with Avigilon experience can confirm before we ask the customer to make setting changes.
