Check it out:

Ironic. How does one justify this?

Well, how about Arecont screwing up. Arecont was the original low cost MP camera provider. They lost their huge lead because quality products and supporting customers was seen as a necessary evil (i.e., 1 and 2).

I feel bad though for Arecont's employees, many are good people. Ultimately, though, it was Arecont's execs greed, putting short term profits (and now cashing out) over building a long term strong company.

And, yes, as an American, this is especially embarrassing but Arecont has no one to blame for driving their abused customers to a division of the Chinese government.

To be fair, saying Eric actually ripped Hik is a little far fetched. Pointing out the facts and truth about Hik is not exactly ripping them.

Read the article and then explain how you could possibly justify choosing Hik...

is complete rhetoric and devoid of any facts.

Quality, Low cost and American. Pick Two.

What would make Arecont capable of doing what Axis can't?

"Quality, Low cost and American. Pick Two."

Unfortunately, with Arecont today, it's one.

"What would make Arecont capable of doing what Axis can't?"

Disagree with the premise. Axis won't, not can't. Axis could certainly compete much harder on price and in the low end but they have chosen not to. That's their historic market approach.

Ok. Change Axis to any Western manufacturer.

Not many "Western" manufacturers remain, so it's very difficult to say.

Avigilon

Bosch

Mobotix

Pelco

Did I miss any?

Sony

Panasonic

Canon

Just an aside. What is labor content in an IP Camera? I will bet its not much. ROI is huge in this market. I can tell you that its our govt, taxes etc that run up the price. Then its pushed further by managment and bonuses.

We use Hikvision because it is a quality product and we receive excellent customer support, the end. What else are you seeking from a camera and NVR manufacturer? I could care less if its made by the Chinese people or someone from the moon. The equipment speaks for itself, it has a very, very low failure rate can you say that about Arecont? Open a Hikvison PTZ camera box, take the white gloves for example, who else adds a pair of white gloves? Hold any of the accessories, they are heavy duty, well made products.

I do not condone how the Chinese folks are treated by their government no more than anyone else but at the end of the day I am running a business that supports american employees and in turn they feed American children on the money I make from selling Chinese made cameras. If someone else makes a better widget from the US then bring it on, I'm sure John Honovich will test it for you. Then I might change my mind until then I will keep designing and installing Hikvision systems all the way to the bank.......

the craptastic shenzhen PTZ's back in 2007 had white gloves... I used that same line to sell them when I was in distribution, they were still crap. Not saying Hik is crap, but that argument is invalid.

Personally, I have no problem with Chinese cameras, but I have many problems with Hikvision. That forced association youre making is not universal.
