Are There Any Free/Open Source LPR Systems?

Are there any free/open source LPR systems that can be tied into a hikvision camera? For me, it would be good enough just to record the time and license plate number in some sort of database. I dont need to tie it in to the video playback itself.

Thank you

OpenALPR, theoretically you could send MJPEGs to this program and just have it check image after image, outputting the matches to a file or directory.

Thank you

I was wondering how long it was going to be before the questions for "free and open source software that does [X]..." would start coming in. ;)

For a business, I would recomend using a paid system because of support. But for my own house to hopefuly sortof keep track of the cars driving up and down on my block, I would rather go with a free system.

Hey, my favorite slogan is, "If it's free, it's for me."

Why do you want to record the license plates of cars driving on your block?

I live on a small cul-de-sac. There have been a lot of breakins in the neighberhood recently. Police believe that the thieves drive around before hand planning which place to rob

You can use JAVAANPR, in youtube have some videos using it in RapsberryPi
