Several weeks ago I installed a LTS version of the Hikvision license plate reader camera. It works amazingly well; not just recording entering and exiting vehicles but also reading the plate numbers. The NVR will display a short recording of a vehicle and also show the plate number in text format.
You can search the events to find each time a particular plate has been seen -- even with only partial plate data. The camera can be programmed to, for example, open a gate for certain recognized plate numbers or to send an alert when a "black list" plate number appears. The white/black list numbers are loaded via an Excel sheet.
