Many communities are now, or will soon experience slow or no site-response to their private property alarm systems, unless it is a remote witnessed verified emergency. Privacy issues prevent most residential customers from installing meaningful “remote-witness” technologies. When serious property security is required, a trending solution seems to be to spend the money to “harden the target”, for real deterrence. Special reinforced doors; strengthened glass and window screens; reinforced inside shutters. Most of the security products would not be disruptive when property is occupied, such as airflow, children access, emergency escape, false alarms, etc. And the investment improves the property value. DIY systems, combined with the hardened target, could be the norm in a big segment of residential properties. And many commercial properties too. Some customers will add low cost monitoring, like WYZE @ $5, but only for “customer notification”, which generally would not require traditional licensing. Expect very high attrition of millions of existing traditional deterrent systems that are paying for site-response, but not getting it.
