Say there is a shop had alarm system installed and monitored.  The shop owner wants a alarm siren inside his mansion miles away.  Has anyone encountered this kind of requests before?   Can it be done?

Yes, you can do this with various IP relay type units, one example:

WebRelay

You would have the local alarm open/close the relay on the remote unit. Exact process would vary with how much flexibility your alarm system provides. You may also need to setup port-forwarding to allow the incoming connection, but should be able to whitelist it to only the remote IP of the site where the alarm is to prevent making it open to the general public.

I take it he does not want to go the more traditional approach of a phone app for the remote alert?

Thanks Brian. This type of products are exactly what i'm looking for.   Yes, the owner himself is visually challenged thus audio is the way to go for him in this case.   Now, i'll put webrelay into work at my house too. Be able to control a feeder for my dog while watching her via camera really makes my day! LOL

Okay, my tech just came up with this genius idea. All can be done within video system.  First, wiring alarm panel relay to alarm input port of a IP camera locally.  Have a cheap NVR at remote place and add that camera in. Connect a siren to NVR's alarm out.  DONE!

Make sure you have enough bandwidth for the video over your WAN connection if you are going to try it this way.

The WebRelay units work very well and the trigger time is extremely fast.

Well,  video doesn't have been transmitted in this scenario.

Right so how are you going to stop the camera from streaming when you connect it to the NVR.  Maybe use an encoder without an analog camera connected to it.

Encoder/NVR may still stream a black screen constantly.

Best scenario is to use an IP alarm I/O device as described above, as opposed to an NVR to trigger a siren/light.

Extra hardware and points of failure & hacking.
