Accessing Older Samsung Cameras/Silverlight Issue

We have a site with some older Samsung cameras. When we try to log into the camera, we get prompted to download silver light, which we do. The install seems to go fine but when we go back to the camera, it prompts us to download silverlight again. When we try to install again, it confirms we already have Silverlight installed.

We tried using port 80 (http indicated by Samsung discovery tool), chrome, internet explorer, restarting the browser, rebooting the PC, using the full http:// address.

The camera comes up under the discovery tool, and we seem to have the right password because we can change the IP address from the discovery tool. But I would really like to access the camera

I have 4 or 5 cameras like this.

It's a long shot but have you tried running Internet Explorer in compatibility mode?  Doing so has saved me multiple times.

Thanks. It got me a little closer but no go. Now it prompts me to download a Samsung Active X control and even when I allow it, it just keeps prompting me to download the tool. I tried allowing "download unsigned Active X " in settings but no luck.

I have run into this many times on the older Samsung cameras.  Sometimes you can get around it by going into Internet Options in Internet Explorer, choosing the Advanced tab, then scroll down to the Security section and uncheck the box for "Enable Enhanced Protected Mode".  Then close the browser and open it again.

Alternatively, most of the older Samsung cameras used the following URL to get to the Setup section (this bypasses the main page that shows video which is what requires the ActiveX control):

http://<ip_address>/home/setup/basic_videoprofile.cgi

On my older Samsung camera, I can access any page under Setup from that link that doesn't need to display video.

We may just change the IP to the right IP and reinstall them.

This was a takeover and we cleaned some items, put the camera network on its own network with new IP addresses, etc. The IP tool will let me change the IP address so that may be what we do.

What model camera is this?

Have you tried to upgrade the firmware?  Use the Wisenet Device Manager to search for the camera and upgrade firmware without using the Web UI.

Please check the following settings:

Enable Compatibility mode

Disable Tools > SmartScreen filter

Disable Tools > ActiveX Filtering

Add IP address to Tools > Internet Options > Security > trusted sites

You can also use Firefox ESR (Extended Service Release) which supports the plugin/silverlight.

Sometimes IE can act a little strange.  Try running it under chrome but using IE Tabs.

Try a browser called Avant. Gets me out of many jams. They have an older version of IE on it.

One workaround that worked for me a few times was to download SmartViewer and open up the configuration tab from there, and go to camera configuration. That will open up a web browser and give you access to the camera.

Don't ask me how or why this worked, i have no idea :)

The button you are referring to is labeled "Device Setup Page".  It opens a web browser to the specified device, saving you from having to look up the IP address, etc.  Because it is intended for maintenance purposes, it takes you directly to the setup menu of the camera bypassing the main live monitoring page, which has the plugin check.  You will of course still need to log in to the camera.  Some of the menus, such as video setup will still require the plugin and will then try to get you to run/install the plugin.

Another note is that people keep bringing up IETab. IETab is a great convenience feature, but it is still IE.  If you can't get the page to run properly in IE, IETab in Chrome won't work.

All newer/current Hanwha/Samsung models now have plug-in free mode where it will display at least MJPEG 1fps and not require the plugin to access live/setup.

Yes, that's exactly what i was referring to. Thank you :)
I don't work with Samsung at all, just had a few of the old iPOLIS cameras at home and struggled with this issue before.

First thing i did after i found out you can access it from Smartviewer was to update the firmware, after that it's working as intended with the plug in.

Jay I had the same issue yesterday during a takeover of some older Samsung cameras. I tried all of the above suggestions including Mozilla Firefox, IE, Chrome...no luck. Until I downloaded Safari for Windows. That did the trick! Good luck!
