Access Control Of Destination Dispatched Elevator System

For standard elevator systems, I'm fairly well versed in controlling them from an electronic access control system via contact closures. However, destination dispatched elevator systems are a new thing for me.

For access control of a destination dispatched elevator system, does the EAC system communicate to the elevator control system via TCP/IP, negating the need for EAC panels in elevator control rooms?

Any insight that those familiar with destination dispatched elevator systems can provide is greatly appreciated.

This is a good question that has a varied answer.  The method and equipment needed for that type of integration depends on the base access management platform used and which type of elevator controls are used.

It typically is not purely TCP/IP, and a local controller is almost always still needed to coordinate cab card reads with permissions.

We are working on a project with both Schindler and Otis elevators with destination dispatch.   We are using a 3rd party integration to tie the elevators to the access control system over the network.

TK has a Lenel Plug In that uses Data Conduit and talks to a OnGuardComm Server via TCP/IP.   It has some challenges if the network folks run a tight ship, connecting to the Elevator Controller that is not typically on any Corporate Network might now need a firewall at Elevator Controller/Destination Dispatch Server.   Typically there is a local Building/Controls LAN between Machine Room and Facilities Office or Guard Desk where you often find a DD Workstation.

DD is much better than conventional elevator control via banks of relays and much simpler overall, no readers or floor select buttons in cabs anymore thus really no PACS hardware except for the Cab Call Readers at DD Kiosk/Station.

I researched this a bit, looking for access control manufacturers whose web sites list integrations with the 4 destination dispatched elevator systems that I am most familiar with:

OTIS - Compass Destination

Schlindler - PORT Technology

Thyssenkrupp - Destination Dispatch

KONE - Destination Control

I found that 3 manufacturers listed all 4 elevator companies:

AMAG

Open Options

Software House (C-CURE 9000)

There were then 3 that listed just 1 elevator manufacturer:

Lenel - Thyssenkrupp

Genetec - OTIS

Maxxess - KONE

These access control manufacturers did not list any elevator integrations:

Kantech

S2

CBORD

Keri Systems

DSX

Paxton

RS2

Avigilon

Note that this does not necessarily mean that none of these companies have software integrations with any elevator destination dispatched systems, just that they did not list them on their web site anywhere that I could find.

Also note that I'm not personally vouching for any of these software integrations, just that the access control manufacturers claim that the integration is available on their website.

ICT (www.ict.co) integrates via High Level Interface (HLI) destination dispatch to Kone, Shindler, Thyssenkrupp, Otis and MCE (Motion Control Engineering). See https://www.ict.co/Elevator-Systems
