ASUS is shipping a consumer-oriented switch with 2 10G ports for ~$250. NewEgg has them in stock.

Only having 2 10G ports limits it somewhat, but could this be useful for a lab/testing setup?

Technology spoils us, yes? :)

No, because vms's are so dog-slow they can't consume 10 gig worth of video bandwidth. At least that's the net of what I see every time i ask about 10gig. Doesn't matter what size vms, cpu, etc. Feel free to shout me down because you've seen a vms eat more than 2 gig of inbound traffic (60FPS on 100 cameras or something...)

Yes, given some config with a need for greater than 1gig (or 1 gig bonded to 2gig etc.) this sounds like a good deal. It appears to be 10 gig copper, might mean special cables/short cables are in order. I would recommend not going all integrator-macho about installing the connector ends yourself. Suck it up and spend some money on nice pretty new proper cables for 10gig. (And if it's fiber then what do gbic's cost these days, I trust it's not $1000/gbic any more...)
