If implemented properly and not simply rushed to the market I would say this will change the industry. Right now it all appears to be a gold rush in China.

Is the fear, with a lot of analytics having quite a number of patent elements.

Naturally home grown Chinese variations won't be burdened with paying any royalties.

We know Hikvision paid for licenses. but the lower end players, may not be so forthcoming!

And the only way most of the low end people can play this game is if it's comes as part of the solution chipset. Be it HiSilicon or Ambarella both having analytics, and also Sony do also have with some of the SoC solutions.

So bottom line, Anayltics is great marketing, not so great in practice, for now.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes.

I was also impressed with China Security Show. In fact, all chineese manufacturers has total solution strategy in their market (like Avigilon or Mobotix). When we talk about co-marketing in China with HW brands, their typical answer is that they also have software and can't offer another software, because in this case others will think that their software is not so good :)

So, this market is really a great challenge for pure software company, because major competitors there are all big HW companies. Another fact is that in China till now software is expected as part of hardware (for free). Even for huge government projects software with very sofisticated analytics and features provided by HW manufactures for free! But fortunately this is changing, because it is becoming obvious that support of such systems is mostly SW development work and this work can't be for free.

Regarding interesting new technologies.

Hik demonstrated classification of objects, not just car or person, but with much more details. This is interesting...it means that than you can search by asking some details, like find woman with bag in red T-shirt.

Kodacom demonstrated face and LPR analytics embedded into camera and this was Intel chipset camera! They are first to release such camera. Imagine that you can run whole VMS on this camera and you don't need server anymore! The only issue is cost. Total markup for all Intel chipset cameras in a project must be lower that servers cost. But in some cases you can use one Intel camera and manage others...interesting approach ? :)
