We've used a Byte Brother unit in previous tests. From our IP Camera PoE Power Consumption Measurements report:
Power Meter Demonstration
Using the Byte Brothers POE Power Panel (Online ~$130 USD), we measured power consumption from different IP cameras in a matter of 1-2 minutes for each. As expressed in our key findings, it is important to wait ~30 seconds before recording a wattage. IR cameras boot with IR on, and will adjust to day mode/IR off if set to do so. In this video, we review the features and functions of the Byte Brothers Power Panel and demonstrate its use.
We are trying to see how much poe power is coming down the cable to the camera... like... are we getting enough watts to the camera. Does this device measure that too?
This device measures how much PoE power is being delivered to endpoint devices like cameras.
The other solutions in this thread offer the same feature too.
Thanks. It looked like it was measuring how much the camera was using... rather than how much was getting to the camera... we have an issue where we think the POE switch might not be sending enough power to the camera because of distance.
Thanks again!
Possibly counter intuitive, but the opposite happens - power will increase to compensate for longer distances. You can see our long distance cable test results in this report.
