When talking about lens length are we referring to the length from the lens to the imager? Or the actual length of the lens?
Lens Length
The length of the lens, specifically what the lens length is specified as in the spec sheet (i.e., 3mm, 8mm, 15mm, etc.).
Also, to clarify, one would not physically measure the entire lens assembly as surely it would be longer than the lens itself.
Hello Stan,
The lens length is equal to the length from the lens to the imager for fixed lens but it is equal to the maximum length of the lens to the imager for varifocal lens. It is not the actual length of the lens.
Maybe its better to say that the focal length "f" is the distance between lens en imager where the picture is sharp? So the crossing point "F"in this picture.
I understand that you talking about lens length to the imager but can you explain further how you calculate you lens length to get foV degree please
Best to use the calculator..IPVM Camera Calculator V3
Normally this is also mentioned in the camera data sheets
Hi Stan,
In Matematics the formula is below :
AoV = H Aov (°) = 2 x arctan ( imager size / (2x f))
F = focal length
It that what you are looking for ?
Oluwatosin,
You can use Avigilon cameras with our calculator to try out different FoVs. Here's an example below:
