Top 5 Video Surveillance Product Advances Going Into 2016
Widespread availability of 4K cameras might be 6th on the list.
I left 4K out because (1) it was already a notable trend in 2014 and (2) it is unlikely to have a major impact on usage or competitive positioning. I left out 4MP as well, which is newer and is likely to have a quicker impact simply because of 4MP's low cost.
John,
Curious to get your thoughts on how most VMSs are responding to the growth in popularity of 4K and the simultaneous growth of remote viewing of cameras. How are integrator and vendors addressing the heavier bandwidth load associated with these bandwidth heavy cameras?
We are not seeing much of widespread 4K popularity. Your company is likely an exception given its focus in that area but generally 4K has not yet had much of an impact.

I agree, I think 4K will be the new 1080p. Maybe its too early to tell but if they can get the pricing down on the 4K sensors to make it sensible to put on the low cost fixed lens models, I think it could be one of the biggest trends in 2016. Right now, most manufacturers are putting 4k on the higher end models and it hasnt gained super popularity yet.
Is there other Design Software out there which competes or is the trend just that IPVM will continue to improve?
Historically, the two main video surveillance design software offerings mentioned were JVSG and CCTVCad. Both are thick client Windows apps.
