ASIS 2014 - 17 Manufacturer Tech Review
Note - if there are errors, omissions, questions, let us know.
We focused on getting this out immediately to help before the last day of the show. We'll be expanding coverage this fall, including tests on multiple of these products as they are released.
John, the post about Theia's new lens is a bit misleading and incomplete. Is it possible to modify it? Theia's SY190 lens is currently in development and is not yet available for sale. It is not "available with Sentry360". Theia and Sentry360 each demonstrated a prototype of the lens on Sentry360's next generation 10mpx 360 degree mini-dome camera at ASIS. The SY190F lens is designed to support a 1.2 micron pixel size and provide >400 lp/mm resolution in the center and >200 lp/mm at 85deg off axis field angle. The lens is designed for the 1/2.3" sensor size. The lens has an M12 threaded mount for camera integration. The lens is currently Day only, but Theia is designing a Day/Night version and expect to have it available in early 2015
Nice report! - for someone that usually attends but was not able to this time, I see this as adding much value. Are you planning on reviewing access control system company offerings as well?
There are new access control offerings? ;)
Brian did a few this week: HID 'Twist and Go', Software House Mega Controller, Genetec's 'Unified' Appliance, Video Insight Free Access Control. He's working on an Allegion post, I believe.
Let us know if you are interested in any companies in particular. Access control is more challenging, simply because the release cycle is slower.
DW bought Secubest? Not aware of this
That was a mistake induced by writing this after three long days walking the show! I've edited the post. Digital Watchdog acquired ISD earlier this year, not Secubest.
Is ONVIF dead? I was at the show but seems very few care about ONVIF. Instead, a lot of the camera guys stressed their partners - kind of promoting the impression of a big ecosystem around their products. Are they opening up their APIs and go their own way?
ONVIF is so ubiquitous that it is no longer a differentiator. You can see how much manufacturers care by seeing how many of them get their products ONVIF conformant (as of today, over 3600 products are ONVIF Profile conformant).
Nice Report , it seems as every one is now jumping on the retail analytics bandwagon, still i think Prismskylabs has the upper hand currently
The hardware manufacturers are giving retail analytics away for free as part of buying their products.
Obviously, it depends how good they are, how they match up, but that's certainly a threat to a company like Prism that needs to charge for their add on service.
