Hello and welcome to IPVMU's Fundamentals of Access Control class discussion board. This is a 'class members only' area specifically for communicating only within our class.

For your first assignment: introduce yourself! Explain who you are, who you work for, and your main motivation for taking the class.

I'll start it off: I am Brian Rhodes (see: my LinkedIn profile page) Feel free to email me anytime at:brian@ipvm.com.

I'll be teaching this class with my colleagues from IPVM joining in regularly. I've been with IPVM for a while, but before then I was the engineering manager for a security integrator/door hardware manufacturer in the South-Central USA.

I've always considered electronic access control the 'front door' to good physical security, and I enjoy the subject very much! At IPVM, I head up our access control coverage, so I'm always trying to learn more about the equipment, methods, and designs that make it happen.

I look forward to our classes ahead, and I always enjoy interacting with and learning from you, our students. Regardless if you're an access control novice, or if you're a seasoned veteran - you'll enjoy and grow with the class!

Now its your turn: introduce yourself!

I am Rob Protzman. I own and operate a MSP in Colorado. In addition to IT services we provide structured cabling and video surveillance. We have worked along side access control vendors for various projects over the years and have ended up supporting them in many cases. I am looking to learn more about access control so we can better support existing systems and determine if providing access control as one of our services is the correct move for our business. This is my first IPVM course.

I am TJ Pate I work for Bay District School along with Vertical Communication and Security. I maintain and install Apollo Access control system at our local hospital. They use their access control system to secure the new born babies with the MyChild system, along with over all hospital security and access control inside the hospital.  I also help develop and design for Bay District Schools here in Panama City Florida. My main focus for the district is managing and over seeing new camera installs and maintenance on our camera systems in our schools. We are fully Panasonic integrated with right at 400 cameras in our schools and will be at 600 by the end of next year.

I am looking forward to learning more about access control and the different aspecs of it and the real detail oriented aspects. Before joining ACS I worked in IT at a major school district in the Houston area where over the 19 years I was there I performed everything from desktop support to firewalls. The last 8 years were spent managing the electronics group that had been created within IT which supported everything low voltage from fire alarm to access control to video surveillance.

My hands on experience is mostly with surveillance, with a general understanding of the others. My goal here it get a more comprehensive knowledge of access control.

I live in the Bay Area and work for ZBeta Consulting.  My work role is focused on supporting a Team of project managers and interfacing with clients to help achieve shared physical security and engineering design project goals.

My previous roles have distanced me from the hands-on technical aspects of access control, so I’m keen to deep-dive and challenge myself to learn about the technical topics included in the course.

In addition to meeting and networking with professionals in this space, my goal for this course is to develop foundational knowledge that I can continue to build upon to better serve my Team and clients going forward.

...and like Fletcher commented below, I am also really impressed already with just the first few readings.
