Dark Fighter Or Axis Lightfinder...

On a mission to upgrade a system form analog to Ip. The areas we are replacing cameras have very little or no lighting and are currently being flooded by several IR illuminators. We are hoping to be able to eliminate the illuminators by installing an array of IP cameras that can perform well under those conditions. Trying to get useful feedback that will help me determine the best product for the project, keeping in mind that cost is not a problem...

Looks like Axis has some new low light cameras coming out.

#1 do you want color in little to no lighting or just b/w?

We are testing the Hikvision DarkfighterX currently and we expect to see new announcements related to this from both companies next week.

Hi John, We would love to have color when posible. This install will be performed on a high energy attraction. Although for safety reasons,  keeping an eye on the guest is the main priority, it would also be great to provide a great amount of detail during emergency evacuations or just during off hours when the attraction is being serviced and plenty of lighting is available.

For color, it is especially important to test on your own site. The reason is variations in light levels have a huge impact on how well color low light video performs. For example, a manufacturer marketing video may show amazing results but that scene might have 1 lux and your scene might be 0.5 lux and the results in the later scene may be way worse.

We are going to publish our results of the Darkfighter and DarkfighterX PTZs after ISC West, which should help.

Also, we just did a shootout this week featuring Dahua but also including Axis and Hikvision, see: Dahua 4K Micro 4/3 Camera Tested (IPC-HF8835F). One other manufacturer to consider is Hanwha Extralux which is new and did very well in our testing.

Sounds good John and thanks for the info. Looking forward to the test results, for now, I will be attending to ISC west and I will make sure to get related information for those products and any others that may come to mind!
