How To Handle Discontinued Cameras In IPVM Camera Finder And Calculator?

This is more of a suggestion to you and manufacturers. The Calculator in conjunction with the Camera Finder has been extremely helpful in choosing cameras. However, my biggest frustration is old/discontinued cameras that are still in the system. Manufacturers should know that this tool is being used more and more. If integrators are having a problem finding current cameras, they will likely move to another brand.

Just my $.02 on a great tool.

David, thanks, good question! I moved it to its own topic to discuss it.

Roughly speaking, we could:

  • Not show discontinued cameras at all
  • Show discontinued cameras by default but add a filter to hide them
  • Do not show discontinued cameras by default but add a filter to show them

I am not sure what the best way is to handle this. Certainly, if a camera has been discontinued for say 5 years (to pick a long time frame) makes sense not to show it but what about cameras that were just recently discontinued, etc.?

Anyone with ideas or opinions please share.
