Will Military Drones Provide a Boost for Intelligent Video?

A January 2010 New York Times article examines the severe problem the US military is having analyzing video from drones patrolling Afghanistan. According to the Time, video volume is expected to 'multiple in the coming years' as more drones are added and more cameras are added per drone.

On the other hand, the type of analysis the military requires is generally far different from what is needed in the general commercial sector - different objects to identify and more forensic rather than real-time alerting. While it may provide some indirect benefits over the long term, this looks to be more of a large but isolated niche.
