Yet another IT distributor, Ingram Micro, has entered the physical security market though they are late. They join 4 other North American IT distributors who entered the physical security market over the last few years.

In an interview with a channel sales website, Ingram Micro [link no longer available] did little to differentiate itself while making a number of questionable assertions. Ingram Micro believes that IT surveillance has penetrated "20-35% of the market today" - easily overstated by a factor of 2. They also believe that integration with access control and alarms is key. For most, this is probably is not true and to the extent that customers want this, the transition to IP does little to help or hurt such integration (as 'analog' systems have been on networks now for over a decade).
