Can you add in IR Element arrays that would tie into the particular camera?

Cameras featuring integrated IR are now extremely commonplace, ranging from the lowest cost options to premium high-end cameras. However, the IR range for those cameras can easily vary from 10m to 100m (or more). Figuring out how far they will cover in real projects has been cumbersome.

Do you mean external IR illuminators, like Raytec or Illuminar?
If so, it is something that we can do. It's straightforward though not a trival amount of effort. If others would use that, let us know.

BTW - i love the calculator as whole. You guys have done a great job and that you are willing to keep at it makes me feel my membership dollars are working for me!

We'll definitely consider it. And we work on the calculator every week. The big thing is juggling what order to do things, so I don't want to commit to it because we still need to do the calculator mobile app, which is a big undertaking in and of itself first.

Nov 05, 2015I understand IR range and minimum lux ratings are just lies estimations. What's tough is that many cameras with any IR illuminators at all often list *zero* for that rating. It makes it difficult when searching for true low light cameras.

With our Camera Finder, there are 2 ways to directly handle that, either (1) filter only for cameras without IR or (2) require at least .000001 lux min illumination, shown below:

Nov 10, 2015John - can we take this a step further with a "check box" to turn this feature on/off?
I showed this to a client and he asked why my little guy is at 40 feet but the IR line is way out 90 feet. His rationale was that the camera should be able to see clearly that far. Sometimes more information is a bad thing for showing a client.

I see a general value for a display toggle. We'll queue that up.
That said, was there enough ambient light in that scene that IR did not matter anyway? Just curious.

Nov 19, 2015We have added in a toggle to hide the IR range display. Again, we do not recommend turning it off unless you know you do not need the IR.
It works pretty simply, just edit the camera, check / uncheck IR display.
