Lowest Priced Auto Focus Cameras

Published Aug 06, 2015 04:00 AM

Auto-focus has historically been regarded as a high-end feature, found on expensive cameras. But with prices trending ever lower, is this still the case?

In this note, we look at pricing trends for auto focus/auto back focus cameras using the IPVM Camera Finder to analyze and rank auto-focus cameras from Avigilon, Axis, Bosch, FLIR, Hikvision, Panasonic, Pelco, Samsung, Sony, Vivotek and more.

Hikvision is about to release a new series of cameras this month, "Value Plus". They'll come in 2MP and 4MP with true WDR and motorized or fixed lens. It'll be interesting to see what the street price is on them. Price point for the 4MP is supposed to be close to the 3MP model you show above but with true WDR.

Yup! We'll be testing those models when they come out. The 2MP WDR camera is currently available from overseas sources for under $150, which is an extremely low price point for a true WDR camera.

Might be a little off topic, but what aspect ratio will 4MP be? 4:3 or 16:9?

The HikVision 2632 bullet is just vari-focal, not motorised.

A 'Z' suffix would denote motorised Zoom in a HikVision camera.

Their upcoming "R6 Family" with 2 & 4MP models is detailed here (pdf brochure download).

Thanks, that was an error in the camera finder import. I've corrected that in the post. Their lowest cost AF/ABF camera has been updated to the DS-2CD4012FWD-A, which is a little more expensive, ~$300.
