Dahua Admits Failed Channel Strategy

Published May 26, 2015 04:00 AM

One of the biggest challenges for expanding Chinese vendors is mastering sales, marketing and distribution to Western markets.

Dahua has failed here.

Instead of solving it, mega-manufacturer Dahua is whining and declaring punchless threats. In this note, we break down the problem, Dahua's attempted solution and how this impacts the expansion of low-cost products into the Western surveillance market.

No mention of dahuausa.com?

Last time they solemnly swore, people laughed, but then came the lawsuits and the espionage...

Ari, I think Dahua means the are not legit Dahua re-sellers, not whether they are legit in general. Do you believe that company is an authorized Dahua re-seller?

Whether they would be considered 'legit in general' may depend on whether Dahua really decides to push the point. Perhaps they intend to do just that now in preperation of their massive invasion. Ergo, their solemnity.

From an in-depth but understandable American Bar article:

There is nothing per se illegal about an “unauthorized” sale of “genuine” goods. The first sale doctrine under both trademark and copyright law prohibits brand owners from controlling downstream sales in the first instance. However, such sales can constitute trademark or copyright infringement if material differences exist in the product. One of the more common avenues is to attack such sellers on the grounds that their “genuine” products are not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, and thus are materially different from authorized goods.

They also seem to be one of those offering a re-labeling service, the type that has been mentioned by several members here.

Dahua has a new solemn swearing press release.

Preparing to throw the book at these vendors perhaps?

Ending with a 'warm' reminder:

Warm reminded: the products brought from the unauthorized channels may be counterfeit and shoddy products.
