First reaction:

Ooh! ooh! ooh! I wanna sell an IoT solution too! *Yawn*

Second reaction:

Oh, good. Another A1001-alternative I should consider now that we're talking about more intelligence near the door and possibly with the PACS finally not deluded it's in charge.

2 grand a pop? really. for something on the exterior of the building. how's that working out with the mark V baseball bat attack?

In fairness:

This interface has nothing to do with IoT as far as I can tell. There's no wireless hub or externally connected widgets. It is a combo door reader.

I agree and wince with you at the prospect of a baseball bat attack.

Interesting and functional: With the exception of the scramble keypad and touch screen, Cardex pioneered these features-IP voice included more than 18 years ago.

While I love the idea, it seems that Tyco has tipped their hand on this one. Given all the "wow, cool" reactions that CEM has gotten, how hard will it now be for someone else to release a similar product that DOES connect to the access system you have today?

IMHO, it would have been smarter to simply release it as a universal device and sell millions of them.

One of the things I appreciate about your approach, John, is you are always digging for the true value and not playing favorites just because you are familiar with them. Intellectual honesty is rare.

Well done review.

Very cool product. Does the intercom feature include a "video chat" function? If it does that really ups the value propostion.

Hello Steve: The CEM Emerald version does not include video. Just voice communication.

Has anybody installed one of these yet and care to share their experience? Looks very promising, but a shame about being closed. CCURE compatibility is a good next step, but 2 years out? This industry take patience sometimes....
