Earlier in 2014, after years adrift, multi-imager panoramic camera specialist Scallop rebooted. Now, the company is moving forward with product improvements, price drops and new offerings.

Sep 28, 2014We have tested the scallop imaging d7180 in many different scenarios. The camera is only effective in applications with lighting levels above 50 lux. At 25 lux the camera does not provide any usable picture in my opinion. Do not even consider using this camera in any application with lighting levels below 25 lux. We also learned that the camera cannot handle spaces with varying levels of light. For example if you have an area with 30 lux on the left and 50 lux on the right it seems to have a huge impact on the cameras ability to operate correctly. It will also result in very high bandwidth, thin vertical lines in the imagers of red and green and blurring. On another note the camera runs extremely hot, so hot that we feel this could lead to pre-mature failure. In my opinion I would not even purchase this camera again unless it had a 3 year warranty. We have tested 10-d7180's and all of them exhibited the same issues. Scallop should be focussing on better CPU's, active heat management , a minimum of 5fps and a minimum actual resolution of 1.3 megapixel throughout the image. If the product actually performed flawlessly the current price point should not/would not have been an issue.
