I see a real confusion in the definition of 'edge camera storage'. The above report reflects this, as the first part speaks to one form and the second part another. From what I can determine, there are 2 different 'Edge'scenarios.
1. Redundant Edge recording - the configuration related to the 1st part of above report, where video is backed-up on board, and retrieved by the VMS (i.e. Milestone Corporate) after a communication disruption or loss with the server. I believe the video recorded on the camera is only accessible by the VMS server, and only the high end VMS offerings support this function.
2. VMS on board - where the camera becomes a stand-alone recording server running embedded VMS software. Video is recorded on board (or directly to a NAS device) and managed via the VMS client or web browser (This is completely different than scenario 1, and the 'Exacq lists 4' link to the EDGE page is confusing as this has nothing to do with the redundant edge recording function of Milestone Corporate discussed in part 1).
Milestone has an embedded VMS application called Arcus that falls under this scenario, and is marketed seperately from the X-Protect family.
Exacq Edge and Axis ACC are the other embedded applications that I know of.
Only certain cameras can run these embedded applications, and these are not nescessarily the same cameras that are certified to support the redundant edge recording. I am pretty sure the 'ONVIF' release Milestone refers to in the report is for support of the redundant edge recording function not Arcus support. Confusing?
Maybe an IPVM report outlining the different concepts of 'edge' would be in order?
