These "Average Total Cost of ..." articles are useful. It's reassuring that the numbers you quote in the article above are very close to those I have been using for my initial ROM budgets when beginning new projects.

I thought I remembered seeing one a while ago about the average total cost of a door with EAC. I searched for it briefly but could not find it. Am I misremembering?

Hello Richard:

I don't remember writing that particular article, but I do know that we've informally been using $2000 per opening since a poll on the old LinkedIn forum days.

With that said, we are conducting an 'access control' survey this month, and this question will be asked to the group. We'll release the result in a few weeks.

Best regards to you!

I found the post that I was remembering. It was a discussion regarding the installation costs for an EAC-managed door, not the total cost.

I'll look forward to your upcoming access control survey.

I have to say that, in general, I find the integrator surveys very beneficial. As a consultant, I don't get the benefit (or curse) of knowing first-hand how easy/difficult the systems are to install, configure, etc. (It's been a long time since I've pulled/terminated a cable.) I also don't always get good feedback in regard to how they last long-term, since I'm not the one answering the service calls. The feedback from your integrator members helps me to specify better systems. It's even worth enduring the frequent (and often justified) consultant bashing. :-)

Keep up the great work!

An "average" door with EAC varies wildly from about $500 - $12,000.

We often have glass store-front type double doors with a vestibule. Providing EAC -- fire alarm integration/drop, mag locks, contacts, integration with ADA auto-opener, card swipe, additional ADA card swipe, control board(s), conduit, wiring, rex, emergency exit button, IP network switch/port fee, configuration/setup, testing, project management, drawings and documentation -- might run $12,000...
