SIA Technology 'Insights'

There's a new 'journal' out from the Security Industry Association, aka the manufacturer's trade group, called SIA Technology Insights that describes itself as "provid[ing] original, exclusive, vendor-neutral analyses of the latest security technologies written by industry leaders."

SIA has released a preview / excerpt of the first edition [link no longer available]. Here's the beginning of the table of contents:

The 'journal' consists of a series of vendor contributed articles (from manufacturers like Axis, VideoIQ, Sightlogix, Briefcam, Samsung, HID, Assa Abbloy, etc.).

How that is vendor neutral is puzzling, especially since they are the stock marketing articles that one can easily find in any trade magazine. Indeed, SIA Technology Insights most looks like Security Products magazine without the ads.

This could be attractive to SIA members as they can place their promotional articles without having to buy ads. On the other hand, this puts SIA in competition with trade magazines, presuming SIA can actually establish distribution outside their very narrow membership base.
