VMS Support Search Released

by John Honovich, IPVM posted on Oct 03, 2010 About John Contact John

You may find the perfect camera for your needs but you must make sure that the camera works with your VMS. This can be challenging as many cameras do not work with many VMS systems. Indeed, in our study below, we found more than half of MP networks cameras in our Camera Finder are not compatible with leading VMS systems.

To help alleviate this problem we have added a new feature to our Camera Finder, called VMS Siupport Finder (PRO Member Only feature). This allows you to select your VMS and check to see if the cameras meeting your performance needs are supported by your VMS.

VMS Support Currently

In our study, the average VMS system only supported 45% of megapixel cameras. This study was performed across 20 well known VMS systems and 200 megapixel cameras. The graph below shows the breakdown:

VMS Support Finder Preview

Our VMS Support Finder now makes verifying VMS support easy. See our short preview below of how it works:

VMS Systems Included in Finder

Our finder supports searching for camera support across the following VMS systems:

  • 3VR SmartRecorder
  • Aimetis
  • Artec
  • Avigilon ControlCenter
  • Axis Camera Station
  • Axxon
  • Digifort
  • DVTel Latitude
  • Envysion
  • Exacq Exacqvision
  • Genetec Omnicast
  • GVI AutoIP
  • ipConfigure
  • LenSec
  • Luxriot
  • Milestone Corporate
  • Milestone Enterprise
  • Mirasys
  • Nuuo
  • OnSSI
  • Pelco Digital Sentry
  • Pelco Endura via UDI5000-CAM
  • QNAP
  • Salient Systems
  • Seetec
  • Verint EdgeVR
  • Verint Nextiva
  • Video Insight

This list represents a broad list of leading global providers. We will continue to add more VMS systems. This is simple to do and only requires the 3rd party IP camera support list from the manufacturer.

What's Next? Standards

This version only tracks direct integration between VMS systems and IP cameras. At the end of October, we will add 'standards' support (PSIA, ONVIF). This will 'automagically' associate any camears supporting a 'standard' with any VMS system supporting the same 'standard'.

While the total number of combinations (VMS to IP camera) using standards is relatively limited today (compared to proprietary integrations), the number is growig and is sure to be significant in 2011.

Using VMS Support Search

VMS Support Search is a PRO Only feature of the Camera Finder.
