I've been anxiously awaiting this review for hours. But, alas, no mention of "FBI-level" tech. Tough crowd.

For those wondering, fluff tech site Mashable, exclaimed, "It’s actually FBI-grade surveillance technology squeezed onto a mobile device thanks to FLIR."

The FBI reference is in a lot of FLIR coverage leading me to believe that was in FLIR's PR packet.

The bigger question is how useful Briefcam is to home users. It's definitely neat but I am not sure how much more useful it is than simply scanning through a Dropcam timeline for motion events especially since you need to request and wait for the Briefcam synopsis (aka RapidRecaps to be generated).

I'm very curious about the time-lag to briefcamify video as well.

They could call it NSA-grade technology, but that would probably freak people out having a camera in your house that is pushing data up to the Internet...

It's a neat camera for the money, but the FBI should also be a little offended at that comment :)

The irony is this is a "FLIR" camera with slightly lesser low-light performance than Dropcamp. Thus my thought it has more of Lorex legacy than FLIR.

Now, if it was a thermal camera maybe the FBI-level moniker would make more sense..

This camera is not FLIR but LOREX branding by FLIR. The support is redirected to LOREX.

  • I submit a pre-sale ticket to LOREX, 3 days to answer. The answer was not an answer ...
  • I send a tweet to FLIR no answer
  • I contact the FLIR French sales guy, It tells me he do not handle Flir FX ...

On Amazon.com the "1 star" are very bad. It seems there is many issues with cloud server. The cloud server is AWS (cheap but weak)

Your review seems to say it is better than NestCam. So I don't know what camera should I use for cheap simple cloud upload of motion alert as europeen startup.

No it only detect motion and store files on the SD then to AWS

No RTSP, no ONVIF. When we tested this there was talk from FLIR of maybe supporting ONVIF in the future but no dice so far.

I had the right contact at Flir (France). It seems the merging between all entity of Flir is complicated and they try to improve support and communication.

FLIR FX is a camera of FLIR. LOREX has been bought 2 year ago by FLIR (and still merging)

I might be able to try a FLIR FX for my project it seems to be a good bet.
