Examining Genetec's SecurityCenter
by John Honovich, IPVM posted on Sep 07, 2009 About John Contact JohnGenetec's SecurityCenter is a major advance that will increase end user's expectations for large scale video surveillance solutions and impact the competitive dynamics of VMS providers.
At a high level, SecurityCenter unifies Genetec's three main product offerings: video surveillance, access control and license plate recognition. Genetec has a brochure on SecurityCenter as well as a video which I have embedded below:
Overview of Findings
Based on a briefing and demonstration of a live SecurityCenter system, I see a number of significant improvements including:
- Video Surveillance monitoring improved
- Access control core functionality improved
- Integration of video and access enhanced
- Genetec shifting to more of a solutions provider
- VMS competitors will be pushed to improve UI
While the SecurityCenter is being released for production use this month, some important features will be rolled out over the next year. As such, this impact will likely evolve over the next two years.
