Camera Calculator Adds Personal Scenes

Published Aug 25, 2014 04:00 AM

By popular request, now you can visualize and optimize your own applications with your own images.

The IPVM Camera Calculator has added personal scenes to our 6 pre-set ones. You are going to love being able to use your own scenes when calculating.

Take a 1 minute look at what you can now do:

And here is a 30 second looped video, with no audio, showing how to add your own images.

Getting The Most Out of Your Scenes

You can add any image you want. But the wider the FoV of the image, the more flexibility you have experimenting and calculating.

The max image AoV supported is 180° which many of today's panoramic / fisheye cameras support. You can use anything lower, e.g., a phone but their AoV/HFoV tend to be fairly narrow, 60° or less.

Here's a comparison of 180 vs 120 vs 60. All of them work in the calculator, wider just allows more panning / tilting / adjustments.

We automatically size your input image to match the AoV entered. Notice the black 'border' around the two narrower images above.

More Coming

This fall, we are adding a number of exciting new features, including:

  • Projects / Saves / Snapshots: Save your calculations, organize them into projects, export them for sharing with colleagues and clients (September).
  • Camera Models Added to Calculator: Select your preferred camera model and the Calculator will automatically show performance based on the limits of lenses and resolution of that specific model (September).
  • Auto Calculations: The calculator will automatically determine the ppf / ppm for key targets as the AoV or scene width changes. Simply enter in the distance to target once (November).
  • Mobile App Version: The calculator as an iOS and Android app for use on phones and tablets (November).

Clicking "Your Scenes" does not bring up a menu to upload image in Firefox, but works in Chrome.

Luis, thanks. Fixed. It was a CSS issue in Firefox.

Hi

I have uploaded my own scenes but how do I delete them. When I click on the red x bedside them it asks me if I want to delete the scene but when I click ok it throws me out to the home page and when I go back in the scene is still there. Apart from that really good tool looking forward to the release of the tablet app so I can take it on site

Cheers

Mike

It worked for me on Chrome and Safari. However, it could be a browser / OS related issue. Michael, what browser / OS are you using? let us know and we'll check.

Hello Michael,

Are you by chance using the calculator that is embedded in the report above?

I was able to delete a scene without issue in the designated calculator page on IPVM, but I do get an error similar to yours when I try to delete uploaded scenes from the calculator in this report.

Please try to upload and delete scenes on IPVM's Camera Calculator page and let us know if there is an issue.

Thank you!
