Bosch Dinion Camera Testing

by John Honovich, IPVM posted on Jan 09, 2012 About John Contact John

In this report, we test Bosch's Dinion IP cameras against leading cameras from Axis, Pelco and Sony. Our goal in this test was to understand (1) how Bosch's cameras compared to one another and (2) more importantly how they matched up against competitor's cameras.

Cameras Tested

We tested 3 Bosch Dinion cameras:

  • The Bosch SD Dinion, model NBN-498, a 1/3" CCD camera
  • The Bosch 720p Dinion, model NBN-921, a 1/3" CCD camera
  • The Bosch 1080p Dinion, model NBN-832, a 1/2.7" CMOS camera

Scenarios Tested

We tested 3 primary scenarios:

  • Low Light - at ~0.2 lux, we compared details captured and overall brightness of the 3 Bosch cameras against 6 competitor's cameras
  • Wide FoV Daytime - at ~80 foot wide FoV, we compared details captured of all cameras
  • WDR - in a loading dock facing the sun, we compared details captured of all cameras at both a narrow darker area and a wider brighter area

Our test results show mix results with Bosch's HD line with one of the cameras being a poor performer and the other being one of the top performers in all competitive tests.
