Axis Speaks on the Future of IP Video

by John Honovich, IPVM posted on May 03, 2009 About John Contact John

The IP video surveillance industry frequently looks to Axis for guidance and recommendations on the future of the market. In this presentation, made at the Milestone Partners conference in February, Axis GM Fredrik Nilsson offers such guidance. (You can also read my summary and review of Fredrik's speech.)

Watching the video of the speech helps provide a deeper appreciation of the issues involved. While I disagree with a number of the key assumptions, this speech is important because:

  • Axis is the most critical company in the IP video market
  • The speech explains Axis positioning
  • It is an entertaining and articulate presentation.

Appreciating these issues is even more important today with the twin effects of IP video going mainstream and the financial crisis impacting the industry. Indeed, with Axis revenue actually declining in Q1 09 (in real local currency terms), serious questions are raised about Axis' position and how the IP video market will mature.
