Derek, you are very kind to Acti when speaking about that outdoor scene. I can't really make out anything in that image. That image is completely useless, as is this particular unit in general. I'm glad I didn't waste my money trying one out.

I've ordered three ACTi cameras in the last 18 months and all three "fixed" lenses needed to be refocused. Are you guys seeing the same thing in the field?

I have two E97's and the lens was out of focus beyond 10 feet and could not be focused. See my post on this topic for the rest.

Gang, my apologies, for reference and disclosure, I am a rep for an ACTi competitor(s)

slightly off topic, but somewhat related. Is there a simple reason that the license plates white out when flooded with IR lighting? I thought they were supposed to have a reflective paint that enhanced the ability to be read at night. Are they in fact "too reflective"? If so what are the best ways to mitigate it?

In this particular case, the shutter speed is way too slow. You would need to speed the shutter to (best guess) 1/100 to reduce the glare off the plate. You would have to play around with the shutter on site in the exact environment you plan on installing in to be sure. However, doing so will darken your scene overall considerably. This camera would in effect become a plate only camera.

I have 2 Acti E97's under my desk, replaced by Hikvision 3mp from their Value line. They suffer from a cheap plastic lens and optical zoom is a joke. I can't get a clear picture beyond 10 feet with them.

Acti promised to trade them but never delivered in spite of numerous promises.

The difference in price for these and the next 6 cameras paid for a new NVR.

Watch Ebay for a good deal on these and a KCM7911 fisheye.
