Curious if any of our members went to listen to the Ferguson captain speak at ISC West. We IPVM staff were busy during that time covering the show floor and grabbing videos, but if anyone has a breakdown of key points he discussed or if they took questions at some point, please discuss in the comments below!

To get things rolling, how was the turnout? Was there talk about current and ongoing police "incidents" that have occurred elsewhere in the US? Was it a success/failure? What is h response after these events?

I'm not even sure what role "Captain Greg Smith" actually played in relation to Ferguson...

The following queries come up without any results that have anything to do with the Cap and Ferguson:

google:

  • ferguson "Greg Smith" -isc
  • ferguson "Captain Smith" -isc

removing the limiting -isc and you will receive hundreds of results relating to the keynote.

I don't remember "Greg Smith'. I remember Thomas Jackson and Ron Johnson. Not meaning to knock him since he no doubt was one of Missouri's finest doing a tough job, but I just assumed that it was one of the cops in the news... Did you?

Edit: Here's the bio from ISC

Major Greg Smith is a 25-year veteran of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol in 1989 as a member of the 61st Recruit Class. Major Smith was assigned to several different areas of west central Missouri including Kansas City and the Lake of the Ozarks region, achieving the rank of sergeant in 1997. In 2001, Major Smith was promoted to lieutenant in the Field Operations Bureau where he served as the Operations Coordinator. As Operations Coordinator, he oversaw the Major Crash Investigation Unit, the Field Training and Evaluation Program, criminal interdiction operations, SWAT, and the canine unit. He was promoted to Captain and designated the Assistant Commander of the Field Operations Bureau in 2010. In 2011, Major Smith was assigned to assist and manage much of the State Patrol's response to the recovery efforts in Joplin, Missouri following one of the nation's deadliest tornadoes, which tragically killed over 150 people. Most recently, he was assigned to manage Patrol operations during three large scale events involving civil unrest in Ferguson in August, October, and November of 2014. Major Smith attended Central Missouri State University prior to his appointment to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He was promoted to major on March 1, 2015, and commands the Technical Services Bureau. He and his wife have two daughters and live in central Missouri.

I did not go to the keynote. I was too busy with all the other manufacturers in a meeting about IDIS.
